State Championships – Fours – Zone 14 Play Offs

Northern – Open

Congratulations go to Rohan Booth, Allan Pyke, Nick Thacker and Rick Southam who have won the Northern Section Open Fours final for 2021 with a nail biting 15-14 victory over their Sawtell club mates Anthony Baker, Paul Smith, Sebastian Thompson and Chris Adams.

Adams was in the box seat leading the final 13-6 after 15 ends however Southam’s side rallied to take the lead with two ends remaining. Adams was not yet ready to concede and after constructing a good end, held five shots with just one bowl to come from Southam. Rick was up to the task drawing a front toucher, to give his side a two shot buffer playing the last end.

Adams nearly stole the match with the last bowl of the day but didn’t get the right contact on the head, Southam and co surviving by a shot.

Southam’s side did it the hard way all weekend, registering a narrow victory over the reigning zone champions (Kent Price side) in the Qtr final and again against John Bradley’s team in the semi final.

Adams registered solid wins over teams skipped by Jim Swan and Glen Wedlock on their way to the decider.

The Sawtell side will line up again Greg Keft’s Port city team for the zone crown later in the year.
