Zone championship playoffs – Sunday
Today saw the last 4 Zone championship events contested – and by all accounts the standard of bowls was very good. Photos include Keith Ashdown (Zone Match Committee) who assisted with the presentations to the players. A big thanks to Stuarts Point for hosting the Zone championship playoffs.
Rick Southam (Park Beach) contested his third final for the weekend in the State Open singles playoff against Greg Brims (Westport). Both players are experienced Zone representatives and as expected produced some quality bowls. After a hard fought game Rick notched up his third win for the weekend 31 to 25.
The Open pairs final was won by Josh Carney and Greg Keft (Port City) who showed their experienced Park Beach opponents Cory Daley and Kent Price no mercy – winning 24 to 7. Spectators commented on the quality of bowls played by the Port City team.
The President’s Reserve singles saw another hard fought game displaying good bowls – with Lachlan Cooper (Kempsey Macleay RSL) overcoming John Reynolds (Nambucca Heads) 31 to 27.
Col Baldwin and Peter Stockham (Westport) proved too strong for Ray Cridge and Paul Bartholomew (Sawtell) in the final of the Senior pairs winning 30 to 5. This was Peter’s third event for the weekend (winning the Senior singles yesterday) and Col’s second (winning the Senior triples yesterday). A good weekend for both players.
Good luck to all players at the State playoffs.
